Most HP scanners after 1999 were USB 2.0 scanners. The original HP Scanjet scanners used SCSI, which uses a complicated interface card and a thick, bulky cable. Some HP scanners also have WiFi or ethernet interfaces. Types of HP ScannersĮxcept for a few SCSI Scanjet scanners, most HP scanners are USB scanners. More than 400 models of scanners have been sold by HP since 1988. Some of the product names were Scanjet, Officejet, Deskjet, Envy, Laserjet, Pagewide, Photosmart, psc and Smart Tank. HP later started to include USB scanners in their printers, and produced a large number of stand-alone scanners as well. These were SCSI scanners that were well regarded that used the SCL (Scanner Control Language) protocol. HP has been in the scanner business longer than any other vendor, starting with their ScanJet scanners in 1988.
